History of Lakeview Lodge and Cottages
Lakeview Lodge and Cottages was started in 1949 by Mary (Stewart) Brown. Initially Mary had 10 cottage units and served meals in the main lodge. The first year, the charge was $5 per night for a cottage (and three meals!). At that time, the Federal Government’s trees on the north side of route 6 were very small and it was possible to see the lake and the beach beyond.
Lakeview was one of the first cottage establishments in Cavendish. It quickly developed a loyal clientele, many of whom returned each year. Meals were served in the main lodge until 1972, when Mary closed the restaurant and installed kitchens in most of the cottages.
In 1977, Lakeview was purchased by Ross and Noryne Matheson of Riverview, New Brunswick. The Mathesons carried on Mary’s tradition of hospitality and made a number of additions to the property, including the construction of new cottages in 1984 and the pool and hot tub in 1992.
The Mathesons sold Lakeview to the Campbell family in 1996. In 1999, the Campbells built the 4-bedroom executive cottage located behind cottage #25.
Based on the love of life in Prince Edward Island, the Fung family moved to this beautiful and friendly island in 2016 and purchased this business from the Campbell family in 2018. In the following year, they partially renovated the property and built 4 new executive cottages.
